I walk out to the field to feed the horses yesterday morning. Leo comes up over the hill as im unloading hay. I throw some and start unloading more hay, still no Sophie. Thats when, as a horse owner, in a field of only two horses, not seeing one makes your heart plummet. I however know my mare, and I know it either one of two things. 1) Shes dead (sorry!) or 2) Shes stuck in the fence.
It was the later.
Sophie has a habit of pawing, at what, no clue, but she pawed by the fence. Again. Got her leg through it and was stuck there. Luckily shes a calm horse that doesnt freak out in times of intrapment. She stood there, waiting. Who knows how long. Long enough her poor little leg was shaking from being held awkwardly :( . She started neighing the moment she saw me. I was focused on Sophie and why she wasnt appearing over the hill behind Leo that I kind of forgot safety 101 with horses. I left the gate unlatched. Leo, who was politely eating his hay AWAY from the gate, suddenly decided that going through the gate would be more fun. Loser. So I randomly turn around as im heading to Sophie to check on Leo....who is walking down the road. Yep, just out strolling along. Luckily I have him pretty decently trained and he loves me, so I start jogging to him (he loves jogging alongside me) and whistling and saying his name. He immediately turns around and trots back down the road and through the gate to meet me. LOVE HIM MORE! lol. Seriously, how could you not love such a lover?!
pics at the bottom, or course!
This weather is driving me up with wall. The ground is too frozen and I dont want to injure anyone by riding. Its driving me nuts though. I hopped on Stormy, after like 2 weeks off, and he was WONDERFUL, but I only did a short ride. Hes getting out of shape, he wasnt nailing his lead changes like usual :(
Sophie got some mild rain rot on her shoulders, so she was out for that during the only decent weather time. Its all gone now....now that the ground is frozen again. Its ok, its good for her.
Leo is just completely untouched. Other than stacking him with blankets when we had the 'polar vortex'. Seriously, he was like the kid from christmas story. Sophies light/medium on bottom, his light on top of that, then Sophies light on top of that. HAHA.
On a side note, I jumped on Leo, in the open field, bareback and bridleless (???!!??!) just because he was 'calling to me'. What I was thinking....havent a clue, but THANK GOODNESS for proper handling and training from the beginning. He just plodded along and turned when I put my leg on. Not too shabby. I only stayed on for a few moments, didnt want to push my luck. I just love him. He has such a great mind, amazing looks, and is athletic and talented. UGH, just be 6yo already LOL.
