This site is dedicated to my blog about my experiences with my two little horses, and maybe some other horsie friends, and our journey through training and showing. My unconventional breeds of horses and I are out to exceed the expectations of those around us. Follow our journey and feel free to share yours as well! Also follow me on Instagram @meaganrm3
About the Author
I am an avid horsewoman (and mother!) who grew up doing local jumpers and made the switch to eventing with my unusual mounts. I have been training horses on the side since 2008 and enjoy taking the unexpected horse and exceeding the expectations! I seem to have a knack for training ponies and prefer a bit of a challenge and some personality and sass in my horses. I was always a natural around horses and am extremely dedicated to getting the job done and doing what it takes. I don't plan on being the next top rider, but I do plan on excelling and perfecting myself and my horses at whatever level they make it to. Its not about the show record or level, its about the ability to open up and allow the horses to change you and build a partnership with them while gaining their trust and ultimately changing them. We all learn together. My goal through this blog is to inspire the average equestrian, such as myself, to shoot for the stars no matter what obstacle is in the way. Even the ordinary can become, or feel, extraordinary when they try for something. You don't need that top show horse to feel like you've accomplished something or to reach your personal goals.
My goal is to ride up to Prelim and 3'6 jumpers. If my horses make it, and I get comfortable, I'll gladly go higher. So far, both my horses show the potential for those levels even though so many said they'd never make it past the novice level. Anyone who has spent any time with Sophie knows that her heart is worth so much more than talent and its about a journey, not the end product. If we don't get there, that is perfectly fine with me, because in the end I will be a better person, in and outside of my horse world.
I am a full-time worker in the every day world, with the horses as my "hobby" (as they say) on the side. It is so much more than a hobby to me, its a life. I train other horses and riders when I can, but my main focus is on myself and my horses and hopefully bringing my son up in this amazing "hobby" too. It is hard, it is tough, some days you want to quite, and some days you are on cloud nine. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2015. At first I was devastated because of the fear of what could happen in my life. I have a child, I have a passion for riding, I like to stay active. What if all of that gets taken away?! I was scared, and in some way I always will be. However, i've determined that no matter what path I go, it will always involve horses in some way. If I have to coach from a wheelchair then I will! My blogs will include my life in general. Some times it might be raw and not include the pretty things in life, because I am a realist and life isn't always pretty. When I first started this blog I hadn't been diagnosed or even had symptoms yet. Back then I wanted to inspire people, and now I want to inspire people even more! A medical diagnosis means you have to change some things in life, but it doesn't mean that it needs to keep you from living life.
Meagan boards, rides, trains, and manages at North River Stables which is owned by Vernon and Vickie Lawson. Visit their site and check out the other horses, their bios, and the other people of the farm.
